An Invitation to Invest in the Future

All past students and friends of the Kingston Technical High School (KTHS) are invited to support the establishment and consolidation of the KTHS Endowment Fund, which was launched in co-operation with the KTHS Past Students Association, Jamaica Chapter.

Why a KTHS Endowment Fund?

Most persons, regardless of their level of success in life, feel an urge to “give something back” to their alma mater, the school that nurtured and prepared them for the world. For most schools in Jamaica, including KTHS, public resources need to be supplemented by private contributions to support the education of future generations of leaders and responsible citizens.

Educational institutions worldwide that have achieved excellence are known to enjoy solid support from their alumni. Many KTHS past students feel this same urge to support their alma mater. Several have made significant contributions directly to the school over the years, and some may wish to continue contributing to the institution in this way.

Our intention in establishing an Endowment Fund for the school, however, is to build up and sustain a permanent capital facility, which will yield a regular and predictable annual income that will be applied to specific projects at KTHS.

Target Size of the Endowment Fund

The Steering Committee agreed that the initial target size of the Fund would be J$30,000,000. It is hoped to adjust this target upward in due course, depending on the level of support for the Fund by KTHS alumni.

To date, (October 2020), over J$5 million in contributions have already been paid up and invested; and the Fund has been providing bursaries and equipment for the school out of its income.

Framework for Operation of the Fund

The highest standards of transparency and accountability will determine the framework for the Operation of the Fund.

Accordingly, the facility has been registered under the Companies Act of Jamaica as a company Limited by guarantee, with the name “KTHS Endowment Fund Limited” Registration No. 72946.

The Endowment Fund has applied under the appropriate Jamaican law for tax-free status, and for approved status for donations, which would make contributors eligible for income tax relief in respect to their donations. It is open to all contributors to the Fund, at their option, to be registered as members of the Company.

Management of the Fund

KTHS Endowment Fund Limited is managed by a Board of Directors which is responsible, in duly constituted meetings, for taking decisions on the investment of the resources of the Fund, and on the disposition, for the benefit of KTHS, of the income from these investments.

  • Regular financial and other reports as required by law will be submitted to the Registrar of Companies, and will be placed on file in the registered office of the Fund
  • The files of the Fund will be open to contributors to the Fund
  • The Fund will maintain its own independent legal personality; however, its registered office will be housed in facilities enjoyed by the Past Students Association, Jamaica Chapter at the KTHS.
